The School will include multiple levels of degree programs, including graduate, undergraduate, and certificate programs. Over the course of the next year, the School's committees will be further developing plans for new degree programs to be incorporated into CSU. These may be offered beginning as early as 2009-10, although several recently established and upcoming certificate programs may become integrated with the School of Global Environmental Sustainability before then.
The School seeks to begin its role in preparing students for the green workforce by highlighting current programs across many disciplines that include a sustainability component. We have information on many of these programs listed at www.green.colostate.edu/programs.aspx.
As plans for new degree programs are expanded upon, more information will become available to provide students with a better idea of what courses will be required for admissions. In the meantime, students can prepare for entry into one of these programs by educating themselves in a variety of topics surrounding sustainability, including courses in environmental studies, biology, ecology, policy, law, renewable energy, etc. As the School's mission includes the recognition of the fact that studying issues and solutions in environmental sustainability requires an interdisciplinary approach, having a well-rounded background in various aspects of sustainability would benefit students seeking admissions into any of the School's forthcoming programs.
Once the programs and courses have been developed more fully and a more exact date is known about when enrollment will become available, the School will be able to provide more detailed information on admissions procedures and timelines.
CSU presently offers a wide variety of sustainability-oriented courses spanning many colleges and disciplines. A list containing a sample of these existing courses can be found at www.green.colostate.edu/courses.aspx.
At its current state, the School of Global Environmental Sustainability is focusing on integrating environmental sustainability into existing curriculum in addition to expanding its plans for new courses. The courses currently being developed will also be offered beginning in 2009-10.
At present, personnel affiliated with the School of Global Environmental Sustainability are located in their primary departments on campus. Several sites both on and off campus are being considered for the School, although nothing has yet been finalized.
